a) Purpose.
13 reasons why is a show that has a mix of informative and supportive content, whilst some of the show is focused more on entertaining people. the show wants to help people suffering with mental health issues get the help they need

b) Genre.
From the moment Clay pushes play on the tape recorder, we're plunged into Hannah's dark world as she sees it on the night before her death, when she records the tapes. She takes us on a psychological thrill ride that ends with her giving in to her despair. Her story is so compelling, so full of bitter twists, that most readers report devouring this book at breakneck speed. We are also driven forward by a need to see if Hannah is justified in blaming these people for her tragic decision. Clay is experiencing this same thing, but with a lot more at stake. He needs to find out why he's on Hannah's tapes.

c) Form:
13 reasons why is a purely digital series that is found exclusively on Netflix. which is the leading online film and TV show provider. some shows and films that they see that they could bring users in with, are chosen to be produced and shown ONlY on Netflix.

d) Style:
13 reasons why has a distinct difference in the colour tones when hannah was alive, and when she either was close to dying or dead. when she was alive the colours were warm and the heat of the picture is a lot hotter.

the camera work was specific to make the viewer feel certain ways. for example in a scene were hannah is being assaulted the camera lingers on her face the script asked for the shot to last “longer than is comfortable” in order to help portray the scene in an authentic way.

e) Content.
a typical episode almost entirely revolves around chase and hannah, or just chase in the future (present). he will listen to one tape over the entirety of one episode. he will go to the relevant places that hannah talks about on her map. he will react and flashbacks to circumstances will occur to show how real it all is.

throughout all of the first series, there is a big focus and a lot of stress on the storyline as to why chase is on the tapes. to his relief he is the one who "wasn't supposed to be there". at the same time he needs to know. he is equally frightened each time he plays a tape that it would be his.

f) Meaning.

in this image the saturation and warmth of the image is quite high. it is one of the first shots seen in the series in the first episode. hannah is still alive at this point. with foresight we know that the first series focuses on chase's point of view, and he sees the world in a happier way. this is portrayed quite literally through the cinematography used throughout the show.

this is one of the few shots where the school is seen as being a nice building. everything even down to the lockers are blue inside representing sadness. the school and the nature in the shot take an equal amount overall.this shows overall balance with the shot. this indicates happiness and peace.

in this shot, chase is a lot further through the tapes. hannah has died and chase has listened to his own tape. he is in the car with tony. this is the first time chase has literally let someone else take the wheel for him, figuratively as well. to this point no one has helped him. nor has he let anyone.

he takes up a medium amount of the shot. most of his head is in darkness which can be taken a few ways; his mind is in complete darkness with no light; its simply dark, or he has no hope.
the plaster on his head is barely visible which could also show that he is used to the pain, or the wounds inside and out. half of it is also in the shadow, which could show that the happiness and pain and all the emotions he's feeling are just blending into one dull depressing state.
